In a 2008 interview with Jim Halterman of The Futon Critic, Kathy Najimy, speaking about the guest stars of season 13’s “King of the Hill”, confessed to being particularly struck by William Devane. “William Devane from ‘Knots Landing’ is there too and I have to tell you he still looks hot as ever,” she said. Halterman then added how Najimy let out his signature laugh, fainting in front of the actor.
Devane, as Najimy mentioned, was a staple on the primetime soap opera “Knots Landing” for 10 years, playing handsome business executive and politician Greg Sumner. He guest-starred on a season 13 episode of “King of the Hill,” voicing Chuck Garrison, whom Hank’s (Mike Judge) mother, Tilly (K. Callan), marries after knowing him for just a few months. Although Hank, famous for playing his way, is initially put off by Chuck, the two discover they have a lot in common and are also exhausted by Tilly’s impulsive nature.
As for Devane, he’s kept busy since the last episode of “Knots Landing” in 1993. Not only has he appeared in a wide range of films – from “Interstellar” to sci-fi horror “Hollow Man” 2000s – he was in 20 episodes of “24” as Secretary of Defense James Heller. He’s made guest appearances on episodes of “The West Wing,” “The X-Files,” “NCIS,” and more (via IMDb).
