Sex Education season 4: Everything you need to know about the new series of Netflix’s steamy teen drama


Netflix’s coming-of-age comedy-drama Sex Education revolves around the sex lives of Moordale High students, as well as that of their parents. With its mix of hilarious teenage disasters and heartfelt relationships, the first three seasons were not to be missed.

When is Sex Education season 4 coming to Netflix?

Filming doesn’t start until July, so series 4 is unlikely to be released this year. Seasons 1 and 2 released in January 2019 and 2020, and although the Covid-delayed Season 3 didn’t appear until September 2021, Season 4 could return to tradition and be with us in the new year.

What is the plot of Sex Education Season 4?

Not much is known about the storylines of Season 4, but there are a lot of loose ends to iron out since Season 3 ended.

Will Otis and Maeve’s budding relationship survive? Who is Jean’s baby daddy? Will Adam participate in more dog shows?

But perhaps the most important question is what future does Moordale High hold? Without the school, it’s hard to see how and where the characters would interact, but how could Moordale survive after successive sex scandals shut down the school?

Asa Butterfield – Otis Milburn

Asa Butterfield is Otis Milburn. Once described as a Victorian ghost, Otis is level-headed and gives great sex advice, though unfortunately he wasn’t that good at taking it. The ending of series 3 finally saw Otis and Maeve declare their love for each other, but will their relationship blossom or burn out?

Emma Mackey – Maeve Wiley

Emma Mackey is Maeve Wiley, the rebellious outsider but the coolest girl in school. Despite her poor background and family issues, Maeve is not only confident but knows her own mind. Extremely well-read and intelligent, the last episode of season 3 saw Maeve go on a scholarship to the United States. She’ll surely be back for season 4 but, like Maeve, Emma Mackey has been busy with her travels, having recently appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile and set to star in the upcoming Barbie movie.

Ncuti Gatwa – Eric Effiong

Ncuti Gatwa is Eric Effiong, Otis’ best friend and Adam and Rahim’s ex-boyfriend. Eric’s laugh is as loud as his clothes and is always there for Otis, either as a shoulder to cry on or to laugh at. At the end of Season 3, we see single Eric having separated from Adam but being true to himself about how he wants to live. How long Eric will stay if the series continues is up for debate as Ncuti Gatwa landed the auspicious role as the Fourteenth Doctor in Doctor Who.

Gillian Anderson – Dr. Jean Milburn

Gillian Anderson is Dr. Jean Milburn, Otis’ sexologist mother. Like her son, Jean was able to give relationship advice, but wasn’t very good at making a living out of it. In the last episode, we saw Jean give birth to a daughter and find out that her partner, Jakob Nyman, might not have been the father. Can their turbulent relationship continue or will potential father Remy, played by James Purefoy, return?

Kedar Williams-Stirling – Jackson Marchetti

Sex Education Season 3

Kedar Williams-Stirling is Jackson Marchetti. Once Moordale’s top athlete and the most popular boy in school, Jackson questioned his desire to compete and embarked on a personal journey trying to figure out who he is outside of sport while having surprisingly touching relationships. with the corny Viv and the non-binary Cal.

Connor Swindells – Adam Groff

Connor Swindells as Adam Groff went on a huge emotional journey over the course of the series. From the start of Season 1 as a homophobic bully and Amy’s boyfriend, we’ve seen Adam end the third season heartbroken over his breakup with Eric, channeling his grief into writing poetry and participating in a dog show.

Aimee Lou Wood – Aimee Gibbs

Aimee Lou Wood is Aimee Gibbs, Maeve’s best friend and a reliable source of comedy on the show – Lou Wood won a BAFTA for Outstanding Female Performance in a Comedy Program for her role in Season 2. In Season 3, her role grew more serious as she tried to come to terms with the trauma of her sexual assault in season 2. The series ending saw her gaining strength through her friendships and realizing she had to parting ways with kind but dark Steve.

Alistair Petrie – Michael Groff

Alistair Petrie is Michael Groff, Adam’s father and former manager of Moordale. He showed his softer side at the end of Season 3 by having lost just about everything. Will he be able to win back his wife and his job and create a fulfilling relationship with his son in season 4?

Yes, at least two new characters will be introduced in Sex Education season 4, in the form of a trans couple called Abbi and Kent. We haven’t yet heard who plays them, but in a casting call tweeted by one of the show’s writers, Krishna Istha, they’re described as “the ultimate power couple.”

Simone Ashley, who played one of the ‘untouchables’, Olivia Hanan, will not return to Moordale. Having found fame with another hit Netflix show, she told This Morning she won’t be reprising her role in Sex Education: “I’m a Bridgerton girl now,” she said.

Will there be a season 5 of Sex Education?

It is said that this could be the last season of Sex Education. With its cast now much older than the teenagers they portray – Asa Butterfield is 25 and Ncuti Gatwa is 29 – they can’t be students forever. In an interview with Radio schedulesAimee Lou Wood, who plays Aimee Gibbs, has hinted that the end is near.

“We can’t be like 50 saying, ‘Freshers week!’ So it’s weird,” she admitted.

“It’s a bittersweet thing because, even though it’s not this show, it’s probably closer to the end now than the beginning.

“It’s sad but also probably, in many ways, it will be positive. I still think they’ll want more too.”
