WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Texas man pleaded guilty to using a camera to record women’s skirts without their consent in New Hanover County Superior Court on August 2.

According to a statement from District Attorney Ben David, Gabriel Jessie Gerold, 49, was sentenced in Mecklenburg County for having an image in violation of the secret voyeur law in 2020. His probation was transferred to the county of New Hanover and prohibited probation conditions prevent him from having a device capable of recording images or video.

His probation officer discovered he had a smart phone with 14 videos showing under the women’s clothes apparently without the consent of the women involved. The NHC Sheriff’s Department and the Probation and Parole Department found one of the victims who confirmed the video was taken without her consent.

He pleaded guilty to taking secret footage and failing to disclose two email accounts as required by his sex offender registration.

Gerold was sentenced to 36 to 68 months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He was also issued a no contact order for the identified victim by law enforcement that prohibits him from having any further contact with her. If he does not comply with supervised probation after his release from prison, he could have to serve another 36 to 68 months in prison, and he is not allowed to have anything that can take photos or videos. .
