As Acura’s flagship model, the 2022 MDX is a three-row midsize SUV that combines engaging driving dynamics with eye-catching looks and a wonderful interior. The vehicle manufactured by Honda’s performance and luxury subsidiary competes directly with the Audi Q7 and Infiniti QX60.
Despite a high but reasonable starting price of $49,000, the MDX has proven extremely successful in a market rife with alternative models, and Acura has sold over one million MDX units since its official release. After a year-long hiatus, Acura is bringing back the MDX for 2022, with a new design and plenty of additional features.
Leaving the brand’s reputation behind, Acura has given the 2022 MDX styling, equipment and mechanical features that make it feel like premium SUV competitors like BMW and Mercedes. Here are our favorite features of Acura’s intriguing MDX.
The 2022 MDX is fun to drive
Unlike many competitors, Acura and its MDX prove that larger SUVs can still deliver enticing driving dynamics. The vehicle comes standard with front-wheel drive, making it relatively nimble as-is, although we’d recommend opting for the optional all-wheel-drive version, which pushes the MDX’s handling capabilities even further with the helps Acura’s torque vectoring system and precise steering.
Under the MDX’s sexy hood, you’ll find a 3.5-liter V6 that develops 290 horsepower and 267 pounds of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Together, they help push the midsize SUV from 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds, which is a reasonable time considering the MDX’s curb weight of over 4,500 pounds and other competitors in the segment.
For those who remain dissatisfied with the performance summary of the standard MDX, there is a new MDX Type S version for 2022 that fits the SUV with many performance-oriented features. Most important of all is an upgraded engine in the form of a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that develops 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, allowing the Type S to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 .5 seconds.
