Drake Milligan Teases Final ‘AGT’ Performance: ‘We’ve Gotta Rock’

Drake Milligan brings his A-game to the America’s Got Talent Season 17 performance finale, which will take place on Tuesday night (September 13).

After passing the audition and the semi-finals with roaring and energetic performances, the singer – who AGT judge Howie Mandell – dubbed “country’s next Elvis” – trained hard to give his all in this final round.

“It’s going to be a really good performance and I’m so excited. We’re definitely going to take this thing to the next level,” Milligan told Taste of Country via a Hollywood Zoom interview. I feel like we made it from audition to live. It’s the final, so we’re going to do everything.”

Although Milligan is no stranger to the television world, having starred as Elvis Presley in CMTfrom the 2017 series Sun Recordshe says, participating in a talent contest show is radically different.

“The last time we did a live show, you prep for it all week, just like what we’re doing now. You prep for that take. When you play, you have as many takes as you need to get it right. . This time you only have one take. You better show up and know your stuff,” says the 23-year-old rising star, who also credits his band with taking care of sometimes keep him calm.

“But it’s fun! When you get up there and perform in front of a live audience and millions of people watching at home, you come out of a stage like that and say, ‘Wow! ‘ It’s really exciting and addictive to be on this stage.”

Milligan rocketed into the national spotlight in June 2022 when his preview AGT broadcast hearing. There, the former Elvis tribute artist and his band performed “Sounds Like Something I’d Do,” an original song from his self-titled 2021 EP.

The breathtaking performance was enthusiastically received by a standing ovation from the four judges and members of the public.

Simon Cowell called the performance “really, really good” and “genuine”, adding that Milligan was “very likeable”. Fellow judge Heidi Klum even remarked: “I bet they go to the final” – a prediction that came true.

In August, the Mansfield, Texas native returned for the live semi-finals, where he performed “Kiss Goodbye All Night,” another euphoric track from his EP. Cowell hailed it as “the best performance of the night”, and viewers across America agreed by advancing it to the final.

With his eyes on the winner’s crown, Milligan says fans can look forward to another electrifying performance from him and his band for the final round. Although he’s tight-lipped about which song he’s going to wow viewers with, he offers a little hint about the tempo and energy level:

“It will definitely be a next level performance. We have to let off steam, don’t we? Milligan teases with a smile and a laugh.

The AGT The final will air live on NBC on Tuesday (September 13), with the results announced Wednesday (September 14). Milligan’s long-awaited 14-track debut album, Dallas/Fort Worthfalls on Thursday (September 15) at midnight.
